I didn't realize the pure exhaustion, thrill, and roller coaster moments of being a mom. I am SO blessed to have real, genuine & solid friendships. One girlfriend recently summed motherhood up as "the most horrible and very best thing to ever happen to me" haha! I laughed hysterically because anyone who's honest knows that's true.
It can be sooo good. And moments that are so bad. I wish I would have kept better journaling of motherhood, this blog is it for me. And then I skipped almost a whole year of blogging. Which is kind of a blur, that whole year of hard stuff. So maybe there's pics of it on a hard drive somewhere. Or it will come up in years when my kids need counseling. Or maybe one of them will write a song about it. That could be fun.
Last week we did our annual fall pic. We were so rushed between work and Kyler's program. I packed p&b sanwiches in the car because we literally were down to the minute to be able to even squeeze the session in. My friend Andrea has been my miracle worker since kyler was a baby and she was just starting. She does such a great job. Very grateful for her. I can't believe she even answers my phone call when it's time to schedule pics
We rushed to Kyler's Veterans Day program that eve where he did NOT call them veterinarians in his speaking part. Grandpa Larry, a veteran, was honored up on stage (with other vets) and given the microphone to announce who he is and where he served. If you know Grandpa Larry, you may know that he's kind of a wild card. Meaning, you're NeVeRrr real sure what may come out of his mouth. So John was a sweating mess (no, seriously) when it was almost time for grandpa to speak.
And yes, he did "add lib" and mention how very proud he was of all his grandchildren & that he takes full responsibility for all these Merwin kids coming through the school :)
After he handed over the microphone, chuck said
"crisis averted, crisis averted. I laughed so hard. John wiped his brow and said "man that could have been bad"
Brayden apparently didn't have his fill of p&b sandwiches in the car ride. And so halfway through the show, he exclaims with his hands all the way up, "in the name of Jesus I am SO hungry"
I thought the family next to us was going to fall off their chairs laughing (while he looked at them bewildered).
I had to explain to Brayden that while using Jesus' name is indeed powerful, it is not appropriate context for needing a sandwich.
And yelling it.
During a school program.
It's always something around our house. There is half a dozen prime opportunities for a reality tv show, at all times. Any house with kids, you will find worthy entertainment. I am sure of it. Just watch and listen.
Tonight someone (who chooses to remain anonymous) was sitting with kyler and I. Moments after anonymous started speaking, Kyler's eyes got big. He asked -very seriously- "aw man who forgot to wipe"? Then proceeds to sniff around.
Turns out it was the breath of anonymous, causing the odor.
What's funniest is that Kyler's first indication of smell leads him to believe someone forgot to wipe? Because...how many times has that been the culprit of a smell?
Never mind. I don't want to know.
Inappropriate subject? Maybe.
Histerical? Absolutely.
I love being a mom. Even in the hard, exhausting, and exasperating times.
It's the funniest. Messiest.
And the best.
