It's a twist off a Garth Brooks song, isn't it? I'm living it...
I had some laughs this afternoon that I KNEW I would forget if I didn't write down :)
Brooklyn came walking in with this big yellowbook, flabbergasted at WHAT it was that had been dropped at our front door.
I told her its what we used to call a "phone book" (in the 'ole days).
"WHYY would you use this"? she asked
I told her it was before google and (unlisted) cell phones.
She and Ava both looked at each other and giggled.
I shrugged and smiled coyly, like any old lady would do.
((( an hour earlier)))
I was driving a car of junior higher's home from school...
Music is turned up, girls are giggling, typical drive home.
Until --- I hear one of the girls quietly say "she dropped acid" ... Melting down inside, I slowly turn the music down. My heart is pounding, I ask her "umm soo what does that mean"?
"What does WhAt mean" she asked?
"Did you say someone "dropped acid"? I ask calmly (while dying inside)
"Uhhhhhh.... yeaaaah... whyyy?"
(Trying to follow protocol for tween moms everywhere, recalling all the books I've read--breathing deeply-- I close my eyes briefly, wait for courage, and I ask her to explain)
"Ok so who dropped what and what does this mean to you...exactly"? halfway holding my breathe - asking a question I don't want the answer to.
She calmly explains that they had a science assignment asking students to draw unsafe science experiment behaviors, and dropping acid was one that she thought of. "You know, she was working in the lab and trips and drops acid on the floor. Now that's unsafe"
"Ohhhh my gosh... SeeeeRiouSLyyy?? I squealed (far too relieved) Bahaha....
They're all looking at me wide eyed and curiously.
Do you know dropping acid -back in my day- meant doing drugs, doing acid"???
"WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT MOM"?? Kayli laughed. Her friends laughed.
I think I need to chill out. Stop watching Dateline. And enjoy the "lull" of where we are.
High alert, teen years will come soon enough...
said the mom, clutching her car's arm rest and adjusting her hearing aids.
Soon enough.
